Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the most common questions I get about therapy and working with me. If you don’t see your question answered below, contact me.

What are your specialities?

I specialize in providing Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) based relationship counseling to couples in Philadelphia, PA, in person in Newtown, PA, and online throughout Pennsylvania. I specialize in couples with ADHD, mixed neurotype couples, couples with autism, and also providing individual therapy to individuals with ADHD.

What are your fees?

Couples therapy sessions are 70 minutes in length and cost $210/session.

Individual therapy sessions are 50 minutes in length and cost $150/session.

Do you accept insurance?

No, my therapy practice is private pay, which means I do not accept insurance and I do not provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement.

There’s a few reasons for this:

  • Insurance providers often dictate the number of sessions, their duration, and the types of therapy allowed, and many insurance providers do not cover couples therapy services. By not accepting insurance, I have greater flexibility to offer the type and format of treatment that I believe best meets your needs.

  • Insurance requires a psychiatric diagnosis to reimburse your treatment. As a private pay clinician, I can focus on your specific issues without being required to provide a diagnostic label when it is not clinically relevant.

  • Your privacy and confidentiality are of the utmost importance to me. By operating outside of the insurance system, your personal and sensitive information remains more secure and confidential. You can feel safe discussing your relationship concerns without the fear of insurance-related third-party involvement.

Where are you located?

My office is in Newtown, PA, which is located in Bucks County.  However, I am able to provide online therapy to clients located anywhere within Pennsylvania.

How does online therapy work?

Convenience and Accessibility: Online therapy offers clients greater flexibility in scheduling sessions, eliminating the need for travel or commuting to a physical office. This convenience can be especially beneficial for those with busy schedules or those who would need to travel a significant distance to the therapy office.

Video Sessions: Online therapy with Dr. Lynch takes place through a HIPAA-compliant, encrypted  video conferencing platform. You can participate in therapy sessions from the comfort of your home.

Therapeutic Approach: Dr. Lynch uses the emotionally focused therapy approach in both online and in-person sessions. Online therapy sessions will follow the same format and structure of a typical in-person session.

Effectiveness of Online  Therapy: Research indicates that online therapy can be as effective as traditional in-person therapy for a wide range of concerns, including relationship issues. The convenience and accessibility of online therapy often contribute to better engagement and consistent attendance, leading to positive outcomes.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

I currently have daytime in-person availability in my office in Newtown, PA.

What can I expect during my first appointment?

During your first appointment, you can expect to be treated with respect, compassion, and understanding.

I will review the informed consent process, which involves explaining the scope of my therapy services, confidentiality protections, practice policies, and discussing any risks or benefits related to therapy.

The majority of the first session will involve discussing your reasons for seeking therapy and the current issues or challenges you are facing. I’ll ask some initial assessment questions to help me get a better understanding of your relationship and how it functions, as well as any factors that may be contributing to any issues you are currently experiencing.

Overall, the goal of your first appointment is to get to know you and provide a safe and supportive space to explore the challenges in your relationship and goals for therapy.

How long do I need to be in therapy?

The length of therapy varies based on the unique needs and goals of each individual or couple. Some clients may see significant improvements in a few sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term therapy.

Generally, emotionally focused couples therapy is a relatively short-term method, and couples can expect to see progress within 8 to 20 sessions. However, the specific number of appointments can vary depending on the severity of the issues, the level of commitment from both partners, and other factors unique to each couple. Dr. Lynch will regularly assess your progress and work with you to determine the optimal length of therapy for your specific needs.
